A letter to Billy Bob Thornton

Dear Billy Bob,

I can call you Billy Bob can I? I ask because recent events seem to show you are a bit tetchy about stuff and I just want to make sure I not crossing a line I ought not to. Particularly after I read about your recent visit to the Canadian Radio station, CBC.

Apparently you were there to promote your Band, The Boxmasters and got a bit peeved when you were referred to as an "Oscar-winning actor".

Now first things first. How did I miss this music thing? Are you doing a Joaquin Phoenix and completely changing career direction? At 53 that's seriously brave decision as they say, but if it is what floats you boat then cool.

However what ever you are doing or decide to do music-wise, it is worth remembering that the only reason a top Radio station like that is giving you the time of day, is because you are an "Oscar-winning actor"!

Dude you need to get real, if you were just ordinary Billy Bob Thornton from Wapello, Idaho or some other backwater do you you think you could just swan into a radio station with folks fawning all over you? No! Granted you've been doing the music thing for a while but lets be honest you ain't the first actor to dabble into other areas. Folks like Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal, Russell Crowe amongst others have all done it, but the key thing is to remember what puts food on your table, so to speak.

So by all means buy a tour van, get a few friends together, perform at trendy intimate gigs, but don't ever get upset about being called an actor, because to be honest that's the only reason millions of people like me have ever heard of you.

p.s. I was pleasantly surprised to see your band has an album for sale on Amazon and is the 836th best seller in the music section, so I guess you might actually not be that bad.

p.p.s The insulting a whole country thing, that never going to fly. You are probably now a persona non grata anywhere north of Niagara

"Slumdog" Kids hit the catwalk at Delhi fashion week

Can't they really go back to the way they were and should they!.

It has been a momentous couple of weeks for the child stars of the multi-Oscar winning hit Slumdog Millionaire, Rubina Ali and Mohammed Azharuddin Ismail. Plucked from the grinding poverty of the slums of Mumbai which were the focus of the film they starred in, they have been catapulted into the heady world of show business, glitz and fame.

February saw them hob-nobbing with Hollywood stars at the Oscars and now they've hit the catwalk at the Delhi fashion show. All this must be a million miles from the life they knew before Slumdog, but where do they go from here

There were many promises to pull the children and their family out of the grinding poverty they are surrounded with but so far little has happened. They have had a trust fund set up for them by the film makers but that provides funds for the long term.

Let's hope more changes soon, particualrly getting them somewhere good to live

More heart break for 'unlucky in love' Aniston

It looks like fresh heartbreak for Friends star Jennifer Aniston. Reports are coming through that she has split from her latest Beau, musician John Mayer.

Having recently turned 40 Aniston's latest relationship breakdown must leave her wondering if she is ever going to find true happiness. It must also be particularly galling when she looks over her shoulder and sees former love Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie playing happy families with their myriad of kids.

Aniston and Mayer hooked up last April and their relationship has been bit rocky but their appearance together at the Oscars seemed to be a sign of it getting on the right track, sadly it is not to be.

Kate Winslet is an Oscar Fashion hit

She wow'ed the awards panel with her performance in the film The Reader and on the night of the 81st Academy Awards show - The Oscars - Kate Winslet also wow'ed the fashion folk with her Yves St Laurent gown best described as "regal".

Elsewhere critics were divided on Angelina Jolie's black Elie Sabb ensemble but we think she carried it off especially with the emerald green earrings, but only just.

Penolope Cruz arrived in a 'vintage' (that's old to you and me) Balmain dress. It takes a certain panache to do this successfully and she did. It also helps your confidence when you collect a best supporting actress award.

Others who dazzled on the night included Slumdog Millionaire star Frieda Pinto in a Royal Blue John Galliano frock and Anne Hathaway in a silver Armani number.

On the not so good side of things was Tilda Swinton who came in some sort of grey and black wrap but then she's never been a stickler for the conventional, Mylie Cyrus who looked like a christmas tree and Whoopi Goldberg just looked out of place

All in all another great (and horrendously expensive) day of high fashion.
